About the Event

Fire is a sacred element in both the history of human development, and the stewardship of natural spaces. We have used it for millenia to purify our drinking water, cook our food, warm our homes, and bring us light in  dark places. Our relationship to fire has drastically changed since we first discovered it's power. What began as fear, evolved into dependency, responsibility, control... and now complacency. Come to Black Oak Wilderness School and reignite your relationship with nature's most awe inspiring element. In this class you will learn about fire science, how to build campfire structures for all seasons, where to sustainably harvest fuel, how to start a fire using friction and other ancient techniques, as well as how to tend your fire for maximum heat/light/fuel efficiency.
